Hosted by the Centre for Construction Innovation (CCI), the Constructing Excellence centre for the North West, and part of the School of the Built Environment at the University of Salford, 17 awards were presented to winners, selected from over 100 nominations.
Notable winners included Manchester City Council, which picked up three awards, MediaCityUK, which won the Project of the Year and the Workington Temporary River Crossing project, which was awarded a special judges’ award for Outstanding Achievement, as well as the Cumbria Local Economic Award.
To reflect the change in Government’s thinking to “Localism,” this year saw the five regional Construction Best Practice Club Awards renamed to Local Economic Awards. To ensure that local people choose their own local winners, CCI asked the regional Best Practice Clubs to judge the applications from their region to decide which of them was their best project.
Commenting on the awards, Roy Stewart, Chief Executive at CCI, said: “I would like to thank all those who came out to show their support. To have received such a large number of entries is testament to the resilience and forward thinking mentality of the North West’s construction sector. The submissions raise the bar each year and I would like to praise both the winners and finalists in making the region a pioneer for sustainability in construction.”
Key sponsors include Willmott Dixon Construction, Place North West, Hill Dickinson, BRE and the University of Salford.
