CCI have recently held three high level policy briefings on some of the recent Government Reports affecting our industry.

Following the release of the Governments Building Information Modelling (BIM) Working Party Strategy Paper, CCI held an event entitled “BIM and the Government Estate: The Strategy for the use of BIM on Public Projects” – the event, Chaired by John Lorimer, Capital Programme Director, Manchester City Council and Chair of the Constructing Excellence BIM Task Group with support from Terry Boniface, Programme Manager at Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, a member of the Government/Industry team developing the Government Strategy,  gave an incite as to how the Government will move the BIM strategy forward and Constructing excellence’s response to it.

Also, following the release of the new Government Construction Strategy in May, CCI held an event entitled “Getting Full Value from Public Sector Construction” – the event saw one of the authors of the Strategy – Paul Meigh, Deputy Director for Construction, Efficiency Reform Group, Cabinet Office, discuss the implications of the Strategy on public sector construction procurement and the government’s expectations of responses to the strategy from suppliers.

Finally, CCI, in conjunction with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), recently held an event to discuss the Governments’ Infrastructure Policy. The discussion was led by CCI’s Prof. Peter McDermott and included Richard Coackley, the current ICE Senior Vice-President and Nick Ogden, a Partner in the infrastructure projects team at McGrigors Solicitors. The event discussed the recently published Implementation Plan by Infrastructure UK’s (IUK) – a unit of the Treasury, on how to reduce infrastructure construction costs by £2 to £3 billion each year.

CCI are now planning events after the summer recess that will focus on the Government’s recent response to the Low Carbon Construction Innovation and Growth Team (IGT) report, focusing on low carbon construction for SMEs in the North West.
